The Route
The drive: I-10 through the desert
- From Orange County, the usual way is the 91 to Riverside, then the 60 east to I-10 near Beaumont, then past Palm Springs and Indio.
- East of Indio it's nearly 100 miles of desert to Blythe and the Arizona line at the Colorado River. Fill up in Indio.
- From the state line it's about 150 miles more through Quartzsite to Phoenix.
- Arizona doesn't change its clocks: from March to early November Phoenix is on Orange County time, and in winter it's an hour ahead. Keep that in mind when you book a container delivery.
After you arrive in Arizona
- In the Phoenix area, a car moving in must pass an emissions test before it can be registered, unless it's exempt.
- Many newer cars and fully electric cars are exempt. Hybrids are not.
- ADEQ's online address locator shows whether your new address is in the testing area.
- Bring your car's current title or registration and your new address to the test.
