Local Moving in Newport Beach

Local moving around Newport Beach's water and hills

Water covers more than half of Newport Beach, so a local move here often goes from one island or harbor street to another. Balboa Island and Little Balboa Island are reached over two-lane bridges and Collins Isle over a one-lane bridge; the Peninsula by Pacific Coast Highway at Balboa Boulevard or the Newport Boulevard bridge. The Balboa Island Ferry takes three cars at a time, so a 26-foot moving truck goes by bridge.

Distances inside the city are short, so the hours on a Newport Beach move go mostly to access: how close the truck can stand, how far the crew carries and how many stairs there are. Ark doesn't add a long-carry fee when the truck has to park farther from the door. A stairs fee, typically $100, applies only when there's no working elevator and more than about 29 steps, such as a third-floor walk-up.

Curb space can be reserved with the city's temporary street use permit from Public Works (949-644-3311), for up to 14 days, and Police Dispatch has to be told about the reserved spaces. Parking rules change by season and street: Newport Island is permit-only from May 15 to September 15, signed streets in Eastbluff have a 1-hour limit on school days, and Balboa Village's peak season runs May 1 to September 30.

In condos and homes with fragile pieces, ask for floor runners or door-frame protection when you book, and point out glass tops, mirrors and art. If your building asks for a certificate of insurance, Ark can provide one with about a week's notice.

Newport Beach moving tip

Balboa Island's population roughly doubles in summer, to near 10,000 against about 4,500 in winter. If your date is flexible, the off-season means fewer cars on its narrow streets.

Local Moving in Newport Beach: FAQ

How much does a local move in Newport Beach cost?

Hourly rates start at $129 for 2 movers, $164 for 3 and $199 for 4. There's a 3-hour minimum, then billing in 15-minute steps, plus a one-time gas fee that's usually $50.

Is there an extra charge if the truck can't park near my door?

No, there's no long-carry fee. A stairs fee of about $100 applies only when there's no working elevator and the move takes more than about 29 steps.

Do I need to be at the house on moving day?

You or someone you choose should be there from start to finish, to show the crew what goes where and to sign the paperwork at the beginning and end.

How can I pay?

Cash, Zelle, Venmo or a major credit card. Paying by card usually adds at least about $10 for processing; cash and Zelle don't.

Can you move a condo with a building reservation in Newport Beach?

Yes. Share the reservation window, elevator and loading rules with your quote request, and the crew plans the move around them.
